On Saturday, May 23, Bishop David Talley announced that Father Robert Szczechura, S.T.L., currently pastor of the Church of the Nativity in Bartlett, will become pastor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception effective on August 1, 2020. As the Cathedral pastor, Fr. Robert will also lead the administration of Immaculate Conception Cathedral School. CLICK HERE to read Fr. Born in Orawka, Poland on February 12, 1986, Father Szczechura was ordained to the priesthood June 2, 2012, for the Diocese of Memphis. His pastoral assignments in the Memphis Diocese have included: Associate Pastor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception 2012-2014; Master of Ceremonies, Office of Divine Worship for the Diocese of Memphis 2014-present; part time Associate Pastor of the Catholic Church of the Nativity 2014-2016; Parish Administrator of the Catholic Church of the Nativity 2017-2018; Pastor of the Catholic Church of the Nativity 2018-2020.
Father Szczechura currently is both Director of the Vocation Office and Director of the Divine Worship Office for the Diocese of Memphis. He has a Master of Arts in Liturgical Studies from SS Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan and in 2017 received his Licentiate of Sacred Theology in the Theology of Liturgy STL. He published “The Rite of Christian Initiation and Baptism in the Episcopal Church” Collectanea Lectionium Theologicarum, in 2019 and “The Christological Aspect in the Collects of the Sundays of Lent” Diocese of Memphis, in 2014.
Father Szczechura teaches various Scripture and Liturgy classes to parishes throughout the Diocese including Formation classes for permanent deacons and this year he taught as a Professor for SS Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan.
